Step 3:
Next, the form is locked into the press. An initial proof is pulled in order to line up the paper for the run. For every job it is necessary to align each color with the next and have the type strike the exact same spot on each page printed. Paper guides called gauge pins are adjusted to make sure that the printed piece will sit correctly on every sheet of paper. Another proof is pulled and the irregularities in impression (the amount of ink deposited on the paper by each part of the image and each letter in the type) are corrected through a process called make ready. Make ready involves adjusting the height of the type and images so that the impression is even throughout the design.
